AR/Anti-Reflective Glass

Hengping Industry is a professional tempered glass manufacturer that offers different industries with customized coated glass, including Anti-reflective/AR glass, Anti-fingerprint/AF glass, Anti-glare/AG glass, etc. AR glass adopts the most advanced magnetron sputtering coating technology to coat a layer of reflection-reducing film on the surface of ordinary reinforced glass, which effectively reduces the reflection of the glass itself, increases the transmittance of the glass, and makes the colors originally transmitted through the glass more vivid and more realistic. We offer customized AR glass as your specific requirements, contact us today to get free quote and more information!

AR Glass - All You Need to Know

Anti-reflective glass (AR), also known as transmittance-enhancing glass, is a kind of glass with special treatment on the glass surface, which is based on the principle of processing high-quality glass on one or both sides.

AR anti reflective glass

AR glass makes use of optical film interference principle, through the vacuum magnetron reaction sputtering advanced technology in the glass substrate plated with a certain film structure of the nano-optical multilayer film. AR glass visible light transmittance from 89% to more than 98%, the surface of the reflected light from the 8% down to less than 1%, outside the bright light, high transmittance non-reflective, anti-glare, greatly improve the flat panel displays in the bright light environment, contrast and clarity.

At the same time, partially increase the brightness of the display, with HD moisturizing function.

What is AR Glass Used for?

AR glass is primarily used as a protective screen for electronic products that needs to increase transmittance and reduce reflectivity, such as LCD TVs, PDP TVs, laptops, desktop computers, car displays, gym displays, outdoor screens, medical instruments, cameras, display cabinet windows, and military display panels, and more.

Why Choose Anti-Reflective Glass?

  • High Transmittance: Peak visible light transmittance reaches 99%, and the average visible light transmittance exceeds 95%, significantly enhancing the inherent brightness of LCDs and PDPs while reducing energy consumption.
  • Low Average Reflectance: With an average reflectance of less than 4% and a minimum value of less than 0.5%, it effectively mitigates the issue of strong backlighting causing screen washout, resulting in clearer image quality.
  • Rich Image Color: Images display more vibrant colors and stronger contrasts, rendering objects with greater clarity.
  • UV Protection: Protects eyes by deflecting direct sunlight. It decreases the transmittance of the ultraviolet spectrum, minimizing UV-induced eye damage.
  • Heat Resistance: AR glass can withstand temperatures exceeding 500°C, whereas standard acrylic can only endure up to 80°C.
  • High Abrasion Resistance: Offers superior scratch and wear resistance. The hardness of the AR glass film layer is equivalent to that of glass, surpassing 7H, while standard PC sheets typically range from 2H to 3H.
  • Resistant to Cleaning Solutions: Resilient against a variety of cleaning agents, including acidic and alkaline solutions, without damage to the film.
Strong Impact Resistance: 3mm thick AR glass has the same impact resistance as 6mm acrylic.
  • Maintained Viewing Angle: While typical acrylic might diminish the viewing angle after installation, the viewing angle remains unchanged with AR glass.
  • Smooth External Light: The surface evenness of AR glass far surpasses that of coated acrylic, with the disparity becoming more pronounced as the size increases.

AR Glass Vs AG Glass Vs AF Glass

How to Quickly Distinguish AR/AG/AF Glass?

anti reflective AR glass cover

Anti-Reflection Glass/AR Glass

  • Definition: By applying an optical coating to one or both sides of the glass, its reflectivity is reduced, and its transmittance is increased. The transmittance can be enhanced to over 99% at its peak, while keeping the reflectivity below 1%.
  • Function: By enhancing the glass’s transmittance, the content on display screens is presented more clearly.
  • Result: This allows viewers to enjoy a more comfortable and sharper visual experience.
  • Applications: High-definition display screens, picture frames, smartphone cameras, and various other instrument cameras.
  • Simple Identification Method: Take a regular piece of glass and a piece of AR glass. Place them side by side and press them against a computer screen or any other paper graphic. The one that displays clearer content is the AR glass.
  • Characteristic: The surface of AG glass can be further treated with an AR coating.
anti glare glass cover

Anti-glare/AG Glass

  • Definition: AG (Anti-Glare) glass is achieved through chemical etching or spraying methods, transforming the original glossy surface of the glass into a matte surface (with an uneven granular texture). This change in the surface roughness gives the glass a matte appearance, leading to a diffused reflection effect.
  • Function: When external light reflects off it, the light disperses in a diffused manner, reducing glare and preventing the viewer’s eyes from getting dazzled. This allows for a more pleasant visual experience. The lower the gloss level, the better its diffusive effect, and the less impact from external glare. AG glass comes in both single and double-sided versions. When used, the AG-treated side should always be on top.
  • Applications: AG glass is mainly used in outdoor displays or screens subjected to bright lighting. Examples include advertising screens, ATM machines, POS cash registers, medical ultrasound displays, e-book readers, gas station displays, subway ticket verification machines, and more.
  • Simple Identification Method: Place a piece of glass under a fluorescent lamp and observe the lamp from the front of the glass. If the light source from the lamp appears dispersed, it indicates the AG-treated side. If the light source from the lamp is clearly visible, it is the non-AG side. This is the most direct visual method for differentiation.
AF anti fingerprint glass cover

Anti-fingerprint/AF Glass

  • Definition: AF (Anti-Fingerprint) coating is inspired by the properties of lotus leaves. It involves applying a layer of nanoscale chemical materials to the glass surface, endowing it with strong hydrophobic properties and making it resistant to oil stains, fingerprints, and the like.
  • Function: It facilitates the easy cleaning of dirt, fingerprints, and oil stains; The surface becomes smoother, offering a more comfortable tactile experience.
  • Applications: AF coating is suitable for display glass cover plates on all touch screens. The AF coating is applied on one side, typically the front side of the glass.
  • Features: Processing combinations like AG+AF, AR+AF, and AG+AR+AF can be executed.
  • Simple Identification Method:
    • Drop a bead of water on it. If it rolls off freely, it indicates the AF-coated side.
    • Try drawing on it with an oil-based pen. If it doesn’t mark, it is the AF side.
